The preferredAid parameter determines which AID the device prioritizes when reading a card. This preference typically influences whether a transaction routes over debit or credit rails. Default setting for this parameter is 0. This setting can be updated using the following endpoint: PATCH /cloudapi/v1/lanes/{{laneId}}/configuration.

Debit Transaction Behaviour for Multi-AID Cards
The behaviour of debit transactions for multi-AID cards depends on the value configured for the preferredAid parameter.

• 0 = No Preference (Default)
  • EMV Contact: The device prompts the user to select the payment type based on the available AID list and shows the Debit prompt only if allowDebit/allowedPaymentTypes are enabled.
  • EMV Contactless: The device typically prefers the Credit AID.
• 1 = Prefer U.S. Common Debit AID
  • The device prioritizes the U.S. Common AID, typically routing transactions over debit networks.
  • For EMV contactless transactions, routing to debit occurs only when the transaction amount exceeds CVM limits or when PIN entry is required.
  • List of triPOS supported U.S Common Debit AID(s): A0000001524010, A000000042203, A0000000980840, A00000002504
• 2 = Prefer Global Debit AID
  • The device selects the Global Debit AID.
  • List of triPOS supported Global Debit AID(s): A0000000043060, A0000000033010, A000000333010101, A00000002501

Note: There are additional considerations that may affect routing behavior:

• Pinless Debit with regional networks (e.g., NYCE, STAR), where transactions may be processed over debit rails even without a PIN.
• Least Cost Routing (LCR), using solutions such as Prime, may route a debit transaction over a credit rail if it is more cost-effective.
• Digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay) may use tokenized credentials with pre-selected AIDs that override triPOS preferredAid settings.
